DR ADAM PENDLEBURY
Dr Adam Pendlebury is a gynaecologist and gynaecological oncologist based in Melbourne, Victoria. He specialises in the surgical management of complex gynaecological conditions, including abnormal cervical screening tests (colposcopy), ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and cancers of the female reproductive system (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, vagina and vulva).
Adam undertook his general training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg, Melbourne, before completing advanced surgical training in gynaecology and gynaecological oncology at the Mercy Hospital for Women, Melbourne, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane, King Edward Memorial Hospital, Perth, as well as the Cleveland Clinic in the US. The emphasis of his training has been on the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques – both laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures (including the innovative da Vinci® robotic system).
Adam is one of only a few gynaecological oncologists in Australia who has undertaken advanced training in robotic surgery, which was a key focus of his fellowship year at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Consistently ranked in the top 5 hospitals in the US, the Cleveland Clinic is one of America’s most prestigious healthcare institutions. Working under the tutelage of some of America’s leading robotic surgery experts, Adam gained highly specialised skills and expertise in this rapidly developing field of surgery. Not all hospitals in Australia have the equipment necessary for robotic surgery. However, as an accredited specialist at Epworth Freemasons, Adam is able to offer his patients robotic-assisted procedures, such as robotic hysterectomy, when clinically appropriate.
As both a gynaecologist and gynaecological oncologist, Adam’s day-to-day practice centres on the care of women facing highly sensitive, and often unexpected, health issues. If you have been referred to Adam for care, you can be assured that he will explain your medical condition in plain language you can understand and provide you with honest, caring advice throughout your treatment journey with him.
REASONS FOR REFERRAL
Adam specialises in the diagnosis and management of a range of gynaecological conditions, including cancers of the female reproductive system. You may be referred to Adam because of one or more of the following complaints:
ABNORMAL UTERINE BLEEDING
ABNORMAL CERVICAL SCREENING (COLPOSCOPY)
FAMILY HISTORY OF CANCER
INFORMATION FOR REFERRERS
Adam accepts referrals for both general gynaecology and gynae-oncology cases, with a particular interest in complex surgical cases and minimally invasive surgery.
Adam is one of only a few gynaecological oncologists in Australia who has completed advanced training in robotic-assisted surgery. If you have a patient who is specifically interested in this mode of management, Adam can provide the specialist advice they are seeking. However, managing the expectations of patients in advance is important, as not all cases are amenable to robotic surgery. For more information, please see the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists’ (RANZCOG) position statement on this topic.
COMMON REFERRALS INCLUDE:
